With a view to expediting implementation of major infrastructure projects in the state with a dedicated fund, the Government of Assam in the Finance (Budget) Department by a notification vide No. BW.10/2008/73-A dated 6th October 2009, constituted the Assam Infrastructure Financing Authority under Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 with its registered office in CM block, Janata Bhawan, Dispur. At the time of inception, the Society had an eight-member Executive Committee with the Honourable Chief Minister as president of the committee. Initially, the society was manned by the officers and staff of the Finance Department. The Finance (Establishment-B) Department by order vide No. FEB.235/2013/1 dated 24th June 2014 created the present structure of the Society by creating 5 Nos. of posts headed by a Project Director. 

Presently the Assam Infrastructure Financing Authority is headed by two apex bodies viz.  thirteen memberGoverning Body with the Honourable Chief Minister as the Chairman and nine-member Executive Committee with the Honourable Finance Minister as Chairman. The present registered office of the Society is at F-Block, Janata Bhawan, Dispur, Guwahati-781006.
